A pair of rattan nested trays with a deep black lacquer decorated with a funny human skeleton lying as if relaxing. This humorous trays were most likely used during obon season, the period when dead spirits briefly visit our world. Obon is associated with ghost and Yokai (monsters) or skeleton. Yokai are not all malevolent, some are just mischievous, playing jokes with humans, and can even sometimes bring good fortune. Meiji era.
